A Precious Material

A Precious Material

Atelier VM once again commits to creating jewelry that tells stories of innovation, responsibility, and love

Attentive to the surrounding world and its evolution, it renews its commitment to the search for materials and methods of use. With the launch of the new Virtuosa ring, the decision is made to combine lab-grown diamonds with platinum, driven by the belief that the beauty of a jewel cannot be separated from the world around us

Natural Diamond

Natural Diamond

Natural diamonds form from pure carbon at a depth of approximately 160 km below the Earth's surface. The diamond formation process takes millions (or even billions) of years within the molten rock of the Earth's mantle, where the right amount of pressure and heat is present to transform carbon into diamond. Diamonds are then transported by flowing molten lava to the surface, where they are extracted from mines and transformed into the precious stones we use for jewelry.

LAB GROWN DIAMOND

LAB GROWN DIAMOND

Identical to mined diamonds in every aspect except for their origin, cultured diamonds represent the beauty of nature and a conscious, responsible choice. Through the High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) method, or the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process, the diamond formation process is reproduced. In both cases, a small diamond seed is nourished with carbon atoms in a laboratory environment characterized by high temperatures and pressure, promoting the growth of the diamond, layer by layer.

The diamonds used by Atelier VM are cut and polished by master cutters and verified by IGI (International Gemological Institute). Since they are chemically and physically identical, laboratory-created diamonds can only be distinguished from mined diamonds using sophisticated laboratory equipment. The diamonds created for Atelier VM have a laser inscription, visible only under a microscope, that clearly identifies them as lab-grown.

THE PERFECT DIAMOND

Colorless and perfect

Equal in beauty, the value of a gemstone is not only derived from its rarity. Thus, Atelier VM embraces an ethical concept that impacts the world of jewelry, without compromising on brilliance and quality.

CARATS

Carat refers to the unit of measurement for the weight of gemstones, thus determining their size. 1ct equals 0.2 grams. The word 'carat' originates from the term 'carob,' whose seed was historically used as a unit of measurement because each seed had the same weight. What distinguishes precious stones from semi-precious stones is their hardness index and light refraction. The harder a stone is (and therefore more resistant and durable over time), the higher its refractive index, and the more valuable the stone is.

Atelier VM entrusts the creation of its pieces to goldsmiths who work internally within the company: this is an invaluable value. Goldsmiths, cabinetmakers, engravers, stone cutters, setters, weavers, individuals with whom they have built lasting and affectionate relationships, rooting and establishing over time an innovative jewelry craftsmanship and their distinctive style: a jewel that is both solid and delicate, a profound yet ethereal mark.

GOLD

GOLD

Gold naturally forms in the depths of the Earth's crust, often during geological processes such as volcanic activity and tectonic movements. It is primarily extracted from alluvial deposits or gold-bearing rocks, where it accumulates in the form of nuggets or flakes. Ethical gold (Responsible Jewelry Council) is the material of choice, used in both 18kt and 9kt. 18kt gold is valued for its warm, brilliant shine, resulting from a blend of pure gold (75%), copper, and silver. It is the equivalent of the Italian alloy 750 (750 parts of pure gold per 1000, with the remainder being alloys such as silver and copper). 9kt gold contains a lower amount of pure gold (37.5%) to increase durability and enhance the workability of the alloy, with the addition of zinc, along with copper and silver. The color of 9kt yellow gold tends to be less intense than 18kt gold, with a lighter and softer hue.

PLATINUM

PLATINUM

Platinum, a noble metal, denser and purer than gold, has always been synonymous with value and resilience. Its unique characteristics, such as hardness yet malleability, white color, and natural brightness, lend the jewelry a timeless aura of luxury, ideal for continuing the narrative of love and sophistication. Platinum 950, used in jewelry, consists of 95% pure platinum and the remaining 5% is made up of other metals such as rhodium and palladium. Unlike gold, it does not experience any loss of weight over time and is more easily recycled.

3KT ALLOY

3KT ALLOY

A patented innovation by Atelier VM. 3Kt represents a significant step forward, a new formula. The same ingredients of gold, mixed in a different proportion, allow for greater accessibility, rethinking priorities without ever ceasing the pursuit of beauty.
